Korean immigrant, Nevia No, is a classically trained singer and dancer who runs Bodhitree Farm in Pemberton, New Jersey. The conductor of a symphony of personalities and plants, Nevia must maintain equilibrium on the farm and provide for her family. As Nevia begins to think of the future of her farm, her 27-year-old daughter, Euni, hesitantly agrees to work with her mother during the pandemic. Nevia hopes that this season of farming will convince Euni to fall in love with the work and take over the family business.
Seasons focuses on what motivates Nevia, a strong female figure whose past as a musician and dancer inspires her work today. The film also focuses on Euni, who is fiercely independent and whose upbringing as a Korean-American informs her perception of the farm. The two attempt to reconcile their estranged relationship through collaboration on the land, while the future of the farm hangs in the balance.
Seasons also looks into the family’s unique history. Originally from North Korea, Nevia’s mother fled shortly before the border was closed. She now works with Nevia and Euni on the farm. Together, the three have overcome monumental challenges, and their resilience has led to a flourishing vegetable farm that helps feed New York City.
