Call for Proposals: Israel-Gaza War

Author:

Pulitzer Center Staff

The Pulitzer Center has an open call for proposals on reporting related to the Israel-Gaza war. We invite reporters, editors, and media organizations to submit project proposals that go beyond breaking news headlines and share underreported stories from the region.

The Israel-Gaza war has taken an unprecedented toll on journalists, media workers, and civilians. We are committed to supporting journalists in investigating and exposing stories on the systemic and human impacts of the war through our conflict reporting grants.

While access to Gaza is nearly impossible for international journalists at this time, we aim to support and encourage collaboration with local journalists in the West Bank, Gaza, and Israel. Proposed projects should amplify local voices and have a strong, credible distribution plan to reach diverse audiences.

If you are a freelancer or newsroom seeking funding for projects covering the war and its impacts, or need support due to the increased costs that come with reporting in conflict zones, please consider submitting a proposal.

This special call is part of our ongoing work under our Conflict and Peace Reporting Grants. If you have extraordinary story ideas that demand attention, we are eager to learn how you can tell them. Learn more about our grants, reporting projects, and how to apply by clicking here

We ask that journalists traveling to high-risk zones apply with a safety commitment from their publishing outlet. Before submitting, we ask all applicants to review the ACOS principles, as well as their safety resources. You may include Hostile Environment Training in the budget you submit with your proposal, but please be advised, ultimately we are seeking the appropriate balance of experience, safety training, language skills, and reporting project plans and details. Thank you and stay safe.

TO APPLY, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • A description of the proposed project in no more than 250 words;
  • A preliminary budget estimate, including a basic breakdown of costs;
  • A compelling distribution plan
  • A letter from your editor stating that the outlet takes full responsibility for your safety and well-being.
